We came from
the forest.
We never left.
A story about roots, memory, and why the earth we come from never stops calling us home.
Amsterdam Zuidoost → The WorldChapter 01 — The Seed
A boy from Cameroon
and the forest he carried
Some things you never leave behind. Even when you cross oceans, they travel with you — in your chest, your hands, the way you see the sky.
Nydel Forgweh was nine years old when the forest became a memory. Born in Cameroon — a country where ancient rainforests press against volcanic mountains, where the air is thick and alive, where the earth teaches you things no classroom can — he grew up understanding something that most children in the world have forgotten: that we are not separate from nature. We are nature.
Then, at nine years old, he moved to the Netherlands. To Amsterdam. To grey skies, narrow streets, and a city that hums with ambition but rarely stops to breathe. He built a life here. He found his rhythm here. But he never stopped seeing the forest. Not in his sleep, not in the spaces between buildings, not in the way certain colours in fabric reminded him of bark and leaf and shadow.
In Cameroon, the forest teaches you that everything is connected. The tree needs the rain. The rain needs the mountain. The mountain needs time. That is not poetry — that is simply how things work. I never forgot that.
— Nydel Forgweh, FounderFrom a young age, Nydel was drawn to fashion the way most people are drawn to music — instinctively, emotionally, as a way of saying something words can't quite reach. He bought clothes from different brands, studied how people moved in what they wore, understood that clothing is never just fabric. It is posture. It is memory. It is a quiet declaration of who you are and what you believe in.
And slowly, a dream began to grow. Like a seed in dark soil, patient and certain: What if people wore something designed with the intention of honouring where we come from? What if a brand could carry the weight of the natural world and make it feel beautiful, accessible, and urgent — all at once?
Chapter 02 — The Birth
March 2018.
Amsterdam Zuidoost.
Everything begins.
Cameroon — Early Life
Nydel grows up surrounded by one of the world's most biodiverse rainforests. He learns — deeply, bodily — that the earth is not a backdrop to human life. It is the source of it. This understanding will never leave him.
The Netherlands — A New Chapter
At nine years old, Nydel moves to Amsterdam. He adapts, grows, builds community in Zuidoost. But the forest stays with him — a quiet, persistent presence in everything he does. He starts buying clothes intentionally, with curiosity, always asking: what does this say? What does this mean?
2017 — The Question
What if there was a brand that connected people back to nature — not through slogans, but through how it felt to wear it? Not a campaign. A conviction. Nydel starts sketching, thinking, dreaming. The idea takes root.
March 2018 — The Forest Amsterdam is Born
The brand launches out of Amsterdam Zuidoost — a neighbourhood full of young people, full of energy, full of stories from across the world. It's the perfect place for something that honours where you come from. The forest finds its city.
Chapter 03 — The Why
We don't just sell clothes.
We sell a responsibility.
The world is full of brands. Most of them tell you you're not enough — not cool enough, not rich enough, not the right kind of person — and then sell you a solution. We are not that brand.
The Forest Amsterdam exists because the earth needs advocates. Because the next generation — the young people of Amsterdam, of Cameroon, of every city caught between where they come from and where they're going — deserves clothing that means something. That stands for something. That remembers something.
Nature is the only thing in this world that has never lied to us. It deserves to be protected. It deserves to be celebrated. And yes — it deserves to be worn.
We believe that fashion and responsibility are not opposites. That you can look extraordinary and still be conscious. That luxury doesn't have to mean exclusion. The forest belongs to everyone. So does The Forest Amsterdam.
Every collection we create asks the same question that Nydel asked as a child standing between the trees of Cameroon: How do we keep this? How do we pass this on? The answer is in the fabric. In the design. In the choice to make something beautiful that also carries a message — quietly, powerfully, permanently.
Chapter 04 — Mission & Vision
Where we stand.
Where we're going.
To honour the earth through what we wear
We create high-quality, nature-inspired clothing that is accessible to young people everywhere — clothing that carries the spirit of the natural world and reminds the wearer of their responsibility to protect it. Every piece we design is a bridge between where humanity came from and where it needs to go.
A generation that wears its values
We envision a world where young people — in Amsterdam, in Cameroon, in every corner of the globe — choose brands that stand for something. We want to be the brand that proves you don't have to choose between looking good and doing good. The forest and the future are not in conflict. They are the same thing.
Our mission is not seasonal. It doesn't change when trends change. It is the foundation — as old as the trees Nydel grew up beneath, and as urgent as the headlines about the world those trees are disappearing from. We are here because the earth needs a voice in fashion. We intend to be that voice, clearly, consistently, and beautifully.
Chapter 05 — What We Stand On
Four roots.
One forest.
These are not brand values chosen by a committee. They are the truths Nydel carried from Cameroon to Amsterdam, from a childhood in the jungle to a life in fashion. They are why The Forest exists.
Roots — Know where you come from
Everything we make traces back to origin. To Cameroon. To Zuidoost. To the soil and the memory and the people who shaped us. We never forget where we started, because where we started is what makes us real.
Legacy — Build for what comes after
Nydel's greatest lesson from Cameroon was that the earth is borrowed — we receive it from those before us and owe it to those who come next. The Forest Amsterdam is built with that consciousness stitched into every seam.
Access — Luxury without exclusion
Nature doesn't charge entry. You don't pay to see the sunrise or feel the rain. We offer high-quality, luxurious clothing at prices that young people can actually afford — because style should never be gated behind wealth.
Community — Wherever you're from, you belong
The forest has no borders. Neither does this brand. Whether you were born in Cameroon, raised in Amsterdam, or somewhere entirely different — your story belongs here. We are a home for those who carry multiple worlds inside them.
Chapter 06 — The Road Ahead
This is only
the beginning.
The Forest Amsterdam started in Amsterdam Zuidoost — a neighbourhood that knows what it means to carry more than one identity. To be rooted in one place and dreaming of another. To be building something from almost nothing, with everything to prove. That energy is still here. It is growing.
Establishing the foundation
Building a loyal community in Amsterdam and the Netherlands. Creating collections that speak directly to young people — honest, bold, nature-rooted. Growing our identity as a brand that means something beyond the clothes themselves.
Expanding across Europe
The Forest story resonates wherever people carry dual identities — wherever young communities are searching for brands that reflect their full complexity. We will take this to every major European city that needs it, which is all of them.
Going back to Africa
Where this story started is where it must return. A deep ambition of The Forest Amsterdam is to give back to Cameroon — to the communities and the landscapes that gave Nydel the vision that started everything. This is not charity. This is debt, paid with pride.
A global community of conscious wearers
One day, The Forest Amsterdam will be worn on every continent — not because of aggressive marketing or mass production, but because the message is universal. Protect the earth. Honour your origins. Dress with intention. These truths need no translation.
I want young people to put on The Forest Amsterdam and feel something shift — like they just remembered something they'd forgotten. That they're part of something bigger. That they matter, their story matters, and the earth they came from matters.
— Nydel Forgweh, FounderGo back to
the forest.
The trees are still there. The mountains are still there. The earth that made you is still there — patient, generous, and waiting for you to remember that you are made of it.
Wear that. Be that. Protect that.
